Ace has terrible breath. I came to your blog looking for this post because I remembered you had written about it. I'll have to start giving him bones more often. He only chews Nylabones and rawhides. Those obviously do not clean his teeth like real bones do.

Lindsay’s last blog post..Walk your dog 100 miles

Training Puppy, bones are perfect for bored Dogs. Nothing they enjoy more.

Sounds like the Cats get a great selection of Raw Food. Lucky them!

Raw bones are fab. Not only do they keep teeth clean they are wonderful for the psyche as well, especially for nervous, anxious or bored dogs.

We feed our cats raw bone. Cornish Game Hens, Chicken thigh, Quail, Chicken and Turkey necks. Took a while to get them there... but now they have sparkling teeth and they enjoy chewing away.

I'm sure feeding raw bones are not totally risk free. But...life itself does not come without risk, and if you feed softer bones that does not splinter it should be OK. After 3 years with 3 cats chewing bones we have never had a problem.

I may be wrong, but I do believe the CDC recommends freezing pork for 30 days...

Kudos for your teeth posts!!

Hello Dennis.
Turkey necks are great aren't they?
If you are anything like the three girls though they only last a few seconds. They can devour a whole chicken in a few minutes so they now have nice big meaty bones that last them longer.

Hi Kiana,
The more meat on the bones the happier your Dog will be but it is not a requirement. Any Butchers or even the meat counter in the Supermarket will have plenty of Bones available.

If you just ask at the counter they will be able to supply you with whatever you need. You can get smallish pieces that will be gone fairly quickly or something larger that will last the Dog for ages.

Ours quite often munch away on them and come back to them a few days later.

You should definitely go for something tougher than pigs ears. You want something your Dog will really grind away on to clear off all the plaque etc that is probably causing the bad breath.

Just tell the Butcher you want bones for your Dog and they should give you what you need.

Hope this helps and I look forward to seeing you here again.

I just heard a sad rawhide bone story yesterday. I fixed the URL.

Have a great Christmas and any other holiday.
