I haven't tried biking with my dog but I have been thinking about it recently. When I try to run with her she gets very excited and turns back to run "at" me so I'm sure it would take some time, she's close to sixty pounds so maybe even a skinned knee :)

Chris,

They really do love it. Our old boy Sam used to run for miles alongside the bikes. Fantastic exercise for them (and us).

Jan,

We have been thinking about getting the bikes out too. The problem is do we go up first or down? Either way it will be hard work as our mountain sure is steep.

I would never have done this in the UK, because a leashed dog would have pulled me over, but here in Spain we do sometimes walk (run) Jasper with us on the bikes. But I wouldn't say that it's easier for us as there are too many ups and downs!

Okay, I'm inspired. My lab just turned a year old and even though I walk fast (for a human), I'm sure he could be comfortable with a faster pace. Biking would probably be a good alternative for him.

I never tried biking with my dog. I am afraid that I won't be able to look after him when I'm riding a bike. But I would like to try these helpful tips. Thanks a lot *hugs*

I have biked with my dog for years - but only in the woods. Attempts to do so with a leash in hand were nearly disastrous. My bike will not accommodate a rear mount leash near the axle, but if it did that would likely be my answer.
