Hi Adam,
Check out my Dog Car Safety post. There are lots of seatbelts/harnesses that you can get.

We always use seatbelts for our Dogs and they work great.

Hope to see you here again.

I need to find a garment that I can use to strap my dog in during a drive..would love to take her more often, but she bounces around so much.

A pocketful of treats works great, unless you're on a long trek and the treats are perishable.

What I learned with my chow mix is that if I yell HEY WANNA GO FOR A RIIIDDEE!!????? as he bolts away, he'll stop dead in his tracks and run back to me. Only to find out, of course, that he's been skunked again as I lead him into the house to lay on his dogbed and dwell upon his sins....

But it still works every time. That's dog is NOT the brightest bulb in the box. But he's cute, and he has really funky ear hair and toe hair.

We tried to use one with our Old English Sheepdog, but she did everything to get it off and always succeeded. I think if we had started when she was younger it would have worked, but we hadn't seen one until she was pretty set in her ways. We hiked a lot with her, it would have been great to have her pull her own weight.

Hi Lindsay, you are welcome, I really enjoy your site. If a backpack will help tire Daisy out then it has got to be a good thing. She just has so much energy.

Taris, you can get them for the smallest of Dogs, I was quite surprised.

Dennis, that sounds fantastic. Forget about water and take wine instead!

Hi Cozy Kittens and welcome.

My main experience is with cats although I have owned or rescued several dogs over the years. Animals like to fit in and giving a dog a backpack may make it a little happier.

i use a kelty chuckwagon for my dog: he's carried his own food and water on hiking trips for years now. the only complaint i have is that sometimes, when he's going down a steep decline, the pack slips off his back and he sneaks out of it. other than that, it's been great.

We've never used a dog backpack, but I remember once at the top of Rondaxe Mountain in the Adirondacks seeing a retriever carrying a picnic basket-style pack, which contained wine and cheese that the dog's owners proceeded to eat while sitting at one of the overlooks. I hope the dog got some cheese!
